Captain's Match Report
Match number Six and a visit to my home golf club The Ridge for Captains Day. Good weather greeted us. As it was Captains Day, everyone received a MAGS logoed Hat, ball marker and pencil to help them on their way. We also played a type of pink ball game with the Marvel Avengers with 4 teams of 2 flights (Groups) named Captain America, Black Panther, Hulk and Iron Man.
A good full English breakfast to get the 8 groups away and some advice from the captain on the course. The Ridge is a tight course where the most important golf is played between your ears.
On to the golf, with 28 players taking part. I went out first with Paul Turner, Tim Grimes and Steve Duke. We nervously took our Black Panther ball onto the tee to start the game. No worries as the cat blasted down the centre clearing the water by 150 yards.
Unfortunately, Captain America had less luck on the 1st tee and after hitting the bridge promptly disappeared into another universe leaving the team in trouble.
Back in the clubhouse we enjoyed a very well-deserved beer and waited for the field to come in. An excellent, massive Chicken Roast which could have fed two was then served.
Firstly, congratulations to Ian Rowan on winning the Summer Matchplay who was awarded with the shield on the day.
On to the results. Well done Alan Smithers to win Division Three with 28 pts. Also well done to Ian Rowan on winning division Two with 38 points. I had the great pleasure of playing golf with Paul Turner who had 11 pars, 2 birdies and 5 bogeys to come in with a 3 over par 73! A great round Paul and the best I’ve seen at the Ridge. With that Paul deservedly won the Division 1 and Captains Day Cup with 41 points.
Next month, it will be Upchurch and we are set to do battle for the Autumn Trophy. See you all in October.
