Captain's Match Report
The sun gods yet again shone on the magnificent 43 other players who joined me for Captain’s Day 2025. It all kicked off with a gorgeous full English breakfast and lashings of coffee and was promptly followed by the customary team picks and presentation of unclaimed prizes from previous events.
I was teamed up with Richard McKinnon, Pete Tweddell and Ian Rowan and the golf all round was a little like Tower Bridge, somewhat up and somewhat down. However, that did not spoil the day, and the usual banter was evident right from the off. The course was in excellent condition, and despite the early morning dew, the greens ran pretty true.
Back at the clubhouse, we were treated to Roast Beef and all the trimmings, followed by a sumptuous Chocolate dessert. Once again, Upchurch did us proud, and my extended thanks go not only to them for looking after us so well, but also to Tim Grimes, who pulled out all the stops and jumped through hoops to secure Upchurch at such short notice (Weald of Kent, shame on you!).
Now, for those of you who weren’t quite able to hear me during my after-dinner address, the good people of Upchurch & River Valley Golf Club have very kindly donated an additional prize for Captain’s Day. This is a complimentary round of golf (18-hole course) for two, valid from Monday to Friday, with an expiry date of September 9, 2026.

Before we head to the all-important results, once again, I would like to thank each and every one of you who have already made my Captaincy year a truly memorable one. I am amazed at how quickly the last 6 months have already passed, so thank you for all your love and continued support. I look forward to seeing you all at Surrey National on Friday, 17th October, for The Autumn Shield.
