Captain's Match Report
As if the Cypriot heat wasn’t enough for some of us, 34 foolhardy golfing fanatics braved one of the hottest days of the year to do battle at the 3rd event in our 2025/26 season.
The day at Woldingham began with a fine, full English breakfast, accompanied by copious amounts of coffee and orange juice, which gave us all a much-needed energy boost for the day's activities ahead.
I was accompanied by Geoff Mills, Paul Damper, and Mark Parsons. Once again, the level of banter, laughter, and great company was evident from the start, with the occasional reference to my “Cyprus buggy meets wall of death” incident thrown in for good measure. For those of you worried about the fate of Mr Mills, please have no concern, for he is blessed with fine motoring skills and navigated the course extremely well with me, once again, as passenger.
The course was well-manicured, albeit extremely dry, so even the dodgiest shots just seemed to run on and on. The greens were also very fast, but that didn’t stop the odd 55-footer from finding its way into the centre of the cup (not by me, I hasten to add).
Despite not having a meal afterwards due to yet another wedding taking place, the liquid refreshments went down a treat. We even managed to keep Dave Verga on a tight leash, as the newlyweds appeared near where we had gathered for the prize-giving. I’m sure the majestic round of applause that we all gave both of them is still resonating in their ears. It was almost as good as the round of applause I personally received for launching a pot of table condiments across the floor in Candice’s direction – take a bow, Mr Captain Sir.
Once again, may I take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you for keeping up with the pace set by the group in front of you. Surprisingly enough, it does get noticed by the courses we play at and certainly makes Tim’s life a lot easier when rebooking.
